Ximian has signed on to do an "open source" version of .Net with technical
support from Microsoft, code name "MONO". http://www.ximian.com/ Amazing
how fast Open Source kisses arse when a wallet is waved in front of them.
MS has been the leading Public Relations detractor against Open Source
development from the get go, insulting the "movement" every step of the way.
Yet,...
Never under estimate the power of "wallet" and MS has the biggest in the
business. They want web services. They want passport controlling every
human against "theft" and "bad behavior". They want you!

Subject: Re: [Dynapi-Dev] FYI MS drops all Java support in new Windows
XP.
Java in the browser is generally crap. I won't miss it. Flash has
delivered where Java has failed where the browser is concerned. Java
still has a strong grip on the server-side, which is where it belongs.
JSP is hot, and people are still building servlets.
As DHTML developers, I would be more concerned with .NET. The .NET
suite allows you to take just about any application written in just
about any language (C, Java, C#, VB) and wrap it up as a web service,
accesible with SOAP. You know how MS Exchange creates Web page
interfaces for mail folders, etc.? Imagine that for *any* application.
That's part of what .NET does. It makes applications web-accessible.
It generates ASP pages for web page interfaces. Who needs DHTML when
.NET can simply spawn ActiveX controls for you?
And some people predict that .NET will be released for Linux/Mac:
