Could be a "scream test" to see how loud an uproar it creates. It's also
probably related to the fact that (regardless of the smile on Bill's face)
they lost the appeal in District Court which held them to be guilty of
violating the Sherman Anti-Trust act.
Windows XP is coming under scrutiny and they "will" be forced to change
certain practices related to licensing and software bundling. So,...
What do they do?
Loosen the strings which allows PC manufacturers to add/remove components
(seen as a positive step) while they remove Java (no court will ever "force"
them to include a competitors technology). Don't expect the manufacturers
of "Win/Tel" PC's to embrace Sun/Java, they gain allot more if MS wins the
Internet Services war.
It's strategic chess and MS unfortunately has all the good board pieces left
on the table while the world shuffles "pawns".
