I have been silent for a while concerning anything DynAPI, but this issue has prompted me to speak up.
I have to agree with Robert here... I do not see Dan's desire to create his own widget pack as a major problem. Just as I don't see a problem with anyone else creating their own DynAPI widget pack to sell commercially. The widgets I have created are free because that's the way I feel like doing it. All widgets I create in the future will probably be free as well. Dan would like to create a commercial, professional widget pack. There just isn't a problem with that. In this case it is just like selling a car... you can't patent the idea of a car, but you can sell your own version of it and protect any specific inventions that help your car run that have not been invented before. At the same time I could manufacture a car and sell it for free if I want. We could even make very similar cars, say a sports car that meets certain operating requirements, and you still can't take me to court. If I copy your styling and steal your brand new engine mods, then, maybe you take me to court. On the issue of Dan retaking ownership of widgets that others have worked on: I would think that this could be resolved amicably and without any major hassle. Before we start making an issue where there is none, perhaps we should work with Dan to make sure that no one get's screwed or gets their feelings hurt over widget code.
