Guys, this has a great "urban legend" smell to it.
1. Microsoft's had recent troubles because of the configuration and
management of their routers. A router is a piece of hardware that does
not run IE 5.5. The version of IE 5.5 on my desktop does not control
Microsoft's router hardware in any way.
2. I've never heard of Microsoft recalling a product they distribute for
download. They certainly offer patches, and there is a service pack 1
for IE 5.5.
3. I can't find any evidence of this "recall" on Microsoft's web site.
Can you?
Let's not whip up yet another email myth....

The same thing happened to me with NT 4's SP4...
Well, let's just say THAT little episode taught me to back-up my code
