actualy 
1. tiff isn't fat.. I used lzw compression options. :) 
2. there woan't an option.. there wasn't any other decent format with
NATIVe transparency support in imlbi to use (png didn't work, and
fucked if I was goign to use xpm even tho imlib has a native loader and
supports transparency.. BLOATED woudl be the word for fnlib fonts
then).. so I was left with one last option.. tiff. :) 
3. BMP is a M$ format. TIFF was created by Adobe not M$ and has been
standardised, supports tags, supports many bit depths and forms of
encoding, and has well specced and usable public and free libraries
available (libtiff) to load and save tiff files.
4. QED. You need libtiff you you get VERY ugly fonts.
