>>> OpenBSD is a great OS, but this really is not the place to be
advertising for it ... (And in case you didn't notice: Well-done NT is
far more secure than newbie *nix, even OpenBSD.) >>>

I don't think I am advertising or OT at all. It is imperative to me (and
everyone I assume?) that my accounts be as safe as possible. I question
that they are. I am no hacker, but have done enough research on security
and OS's to be fairly confident in my conclusions. (Of course an
excellent administrator is more important then the type of OS.)

A point I guess I failed to make is e-gold's reputation could be helped
out by using a leading security branded OS. They could advertise that
and compare it to my Wells Fargo Account that only lets me use numbers
for a password. "Safer than a Bank."

<<< Jeff, I bet you 10 grams that IF these cracker stories are true the
affected account users compromised their own accounts. >>>

I bet you're right. But consider reputation again. Some are going to
gossip about e-gold accounts being cracked. Where is the response that
says, " to the best of our knowledge everything is fine. We have looked
through all the security logs and the system runs on an OS that is a
leader in security." OS choice can affect your brand.

>What about liability ... Insurance  ---> I was getting at a business
opportunity in general. Cracking happens even to the best of sites.
Wouldn't it be interesting to set up a self insurance account, funded by
micropayments 'just in case'. That is what I am going to do on my site
(if I can ever get it done :)

<<< Most of the stats you are "quoting" are "old" and win2k is a
SUBSTANTIAL improvement over past win systems. ... As a matter of
interest ... My win2k servers all got a clean bill of health! >>>

Glad to hear that! Thanks for the education :)

<<< Anti MS prejudice is mostly just that.... Prejudice. >>>

I do like the stiff competition M$ provides :)
