once you've entered the passphrase incorrectly 10 times in a row, you are limited to a lesser number of attempts that you can try every ~20 minutes. in other words, if you last entered your passphrase correctly, you get 10 attempts to enter it correctly the next time. if/when you exceed those 10 attempts you only get 1 or 2 attempts every half hour or so. your account remains in that state until you enter your passphrase correctly. jay w.
