I haven't tried the other archived versions, I was hoping to directly 
compare against 3.0.3 to isolate any modifications.

There's no problem with the version supplied by the vendor except that 
it's relatively old.  We have other boards by other vendors using the 
stock 3.2.9 driver and so we were hoping to standardize on one version.

I don't have a lot of spare time to dig into this at this point, but I 
may come back later to try and bottom it out.
