That's correct.  Even if I assign an address statically and manually
bring up the interface, the link light remains off both on the card and
the switch.  There isn't any noticeable error in dmesg output.  The
cable itself is known good, and the card works out of the box in Fedora 16.

Quick aside: for this list, do you all prefer log snippets in body on
this list or attached?
