OK...I should probably rephrase my statement to say that the large memory demands are more due to the *platform* (in my case jdk1.4.0_01 on win2k pro) than IDEA itself. I'd make the same arguments re: choice of OS though. I switched to win2k after 2 years of refusing to touch any MS operating systems (except when forced to at work.) It may be a hog, but I'm quite happy with the stability + overall performance.
