I don't think that the problem is resolved with more memory.
It only happens later if you give more memory to IDEA.
If one time automatic GC was initiated, 
later the memory usage will grow to the maximum either 
you are working with IDEA or it's in background.
What's really strange is that there is no processor usage 
while GC is working and that it needs very long time (30 -60 seconds)
till you can work again. 
(I'm using B545 with Sun JDK1.3.1_02 on Win2000SP2 
with Pentium 3 700Mhz, 512MB RAM and i start IDEA with -ms96m -mx160m Flags)
