Adam, Local VCS is costly at startup only when we change its internal structure (as it was in build #614). E.g. here, at IntelliJ, Local VCS startup takes only 10% of all IDEA startup time. Do you experience long IDEA startup even after the first IDEA run? Can you try to measure the time? How much files in the project do you have?
