I totally agree. Look at the Eclipse icons. They are mostly black and
white and distract less from what you're currently doing. I also
appreciate the very thin borders around everything. Most people probably
use keyboard shortcuts (I do) most of the time, so why waste time with
colourful icons.

It would be nice to get a response to the original question which was
whether Intellij is considering SWT at least as a possibility (as an
option perhaps?).

the icons themselves, as work of art, are great,
but in the context of a toolbar for an IDE 
I would prefer at least some of them to be simpler,
more "iconic" ;-)
