John Gedge, an English tourist, had been visiting the City of Brotherly Love when he was cited for speeding. The penalty was $15, but Gedge forgot about the ticket for almost 52 years until he discovered it in an old coat. "I thought, I've got to pay it," said Gedge, 84, who now lives in a nursing home in East Sussex. "Englishmen pay their debts. My conscience is clear." This story reminded me of the psalmist David's commitment to integrity. Although he made some terrible choices in his life, Psalm 101 declares his resolve to live blamelessly. His integrity would begin in the privacy of his own house (v.2) and extend to his choice of colleagues and friends (vv.6-7). In sharp contrast to the corrupt lives of most kings of the ancient Near East, David's integrity led him to respect the life of his sworn enemy, King Saul (1 Sam. 24:4-6; 26:8-9). As followers of Jesus, we are called to walk in integrity and to maintain a clear conscience. When we honor our commitments to God and to others, we will walk in fellowship with God. Aku hendak hidup dalam ketulusan hatiku di dalam rumahku (Mzm. 101:2) Bacaan: Mzm. 101 Setahun: Ayb. 8-10; Kis. 8:26-40 Para petugas yang berwenang di Philadelphia heran saat menerima sepucuk surat dan sejumlah uang dari seorang pengendara mobil yang ditilang karena mengebut pada tahun 1954. Waktu itu John Gedge, turis asal Inggris, mengunjungi kota Brotherly Love ketika ia tertangkap karena mengebut. Ia dikenai denda sebesar 15 dolar, tetapi Gedge lupa pada surat tilang itu selama hampir 52 tahun sampai pada suatu hari ia menemukannya dalam mantel tuanya. "Rasanya saya harus membayarnya," tutur Gedge, 84 tahun, yang kini tinggal di rumah jompo di Sussex Timur. "Orang Inggris yang baik akan membayar kalau mereka berutang. Meski ia telah membuat beberapa keputusan yang buruk dalam hidupnya, Mazmur 101 menyatakan keputusannya untuk hidup tanpa cela. Integritasnya akan diawali dalam keberadaannya di rumahnya sendiri (ay. 2) dan akan diikuti oleh rekan beserta teman-temannya (ay. 6,7). Sangat bertolak belakang dengan kehidupan yang buruk dari sebagian besar raja negara Timur Dekat kuno, integritas Daud membuatnya menghargai kehidupan musuh bebuyutannya, yaitu Raja Saul (1Sam. 24:5-7, 26:8,9). Sebagai pengikut Yesus, kita dipanggil untuk berintegritas dan menjaga hati nurani yang bersih. Apabila kita menghormati komitmen kita kepada Allah dan sesama, kita akan berjalan dalam persekutuan dengan Allah.
