One remaining question then. Ubuntu is future (there is indeed a lot of news 
on the site about this).

So what will happen if I apt-get install ebox from the ubuntu universe 
repository? It says that version 0.9.3-0ubuntu9 is currently available there.

And what is the timeline for a stable release? 

and a small one: can the admin jabber account that receives the notifications 
be a remote one? (eg. a gmail account)
