Okay that sounds quite expected, and matches the results from previous
users w/ such modem.

After a startmodem attempt, can you find your modem with
`cat /proc/usb/devices` with different VID/PID?
They may have change if part of the firmware load has been successful
(apparently not).
If not, sorry for this, don't waste your time trying this driver :-\.
