If you only use the core, then it's certainly possible to get rid of all the default types.
That's what many unit tests do for instance.

Then just use the default domain and consider it as the root of you
application.
Removing the Domain document type would involve rewriting large portions of

 defaul webapp that assume working inside a Domain.
