It's been interesting listening in on the Nature/Culture discussion. 
Culture, as has been noted, is a malleable phenomenon, changing with the
general evolution of the species and with shifting geographic, power and
technological developments.  Nature changes as well, of course, but the
discussion has really been focused on 'science', the human attempt to
comprehend and then alter nature.  Nature changes but, as Mary points out,
some structural dimensions of it do not, e.g. gravity.  Science, on the
other hand, changes all the time and has as one of its fundamental purposes
'saving the phenomena'.  Thus to some extent whatever works in terms of
providing an explanation is OK.  If Ptolemaic astronomy could predict
tides, eclipses, seasons, etc. then it was science.  The fact that it
failed to account in an elegant way for the movement of planets was not
important.  Ptolemaic science stood off several sun-centred theories,
finally caving in to the Galilean version for reasons of politics more than
'truth'.  So we have to ask ourselves how much of our current scuence is
merely 'saving the phenomenon' and open to radical reconceptualization in
coming years.  Carolyn Merchant's Death of Nature is a useful tool here, a
reminder than there was a more organicist science that was rudely displaced
by our current newtonian/cartesian hierarchical models and it possible that
organcist/holistic approaches might one day prove more explanatory.
