What follows is an expanded version of the ad that will appear in the
Spring 1996 _MLA Newsletter_.
CALL FOR PAPERS
1996 MLA CONVENTION SPECIAL SESSION
ENVIRONMENTAL ECONOMICS AND LITERARY STUDIES
Possible topics include impact of Boulding, Daly, Krutilla on
literary and cultural theory; Malthusian anxieties in Victorian or
postcolonial literatures; environmentalist critiques of the labor theory
of value and their implications for Marxist theory and/or New Historicist
practice; New World environmental economics (Franklin, Jefferson) and its
effects upon early American literature; economic assumptions underlying
the preservation/conservation debate; and so on. Papers firmly grounded
in economic theory/history of economic thought will be preferred.
