I suppose these are good idea, if students are capable of dealing with comput
ers. In my school some of undergraduate's basic classes (e.g., Math Computer
Science, English) are done electrically. They take tests and write an essay
using computer. I know several students who absolutely hate to take a test or
take a class through computer, and I sympathize them. It's some times too
impersonal.
Anyway, at the same time, I wonder that using computer and e-mail would
reduce paper comsumption. Introduction of office automation and computerizatio
n was supposed to eleimnate the use of excessive papers. But, on the contrary,
it increased paper consumption because people can easily print out and people
can not deal with computer screen a lot. At leaset, I know I can't. I wonder
how many people do all the writing and corrections without printing and print
out only the final copy?
