The Internet is a great tool and I think this is a good idea. However, not all
students may have access to the
net...Computers are expensive and unless the college provides e-mail access, finding
an internet carrier can
also be costly. I live in a rural area and used Prodigy for a while (SUPER expensive
when it came to the phone
bills), but now have "bright.net" which is sponsored by a consortium of rural Ohio
telephone cooperatives.
Very resonable and *no* long distance charges.
One idea would be to have all of your class members research a topic on the 'Net using
college facilities. They
could then present a "workshop" during class for their final project.

Lately I have been finding more and more uses for the internet. We have an
eletronic notes conference at Lawrence that I now use for all my classes, where
students respond to outside lectures, readings and class discussion without
turning in papers -- and an added bonus is that they talk to each other in the
process, not merely to me. The notes conferences *engage* the students. So
I've gotten rid of some paper.
I've also started to use the web -- I have some class web pages with links and
resources on the web, but students don't use it enough yet.
