Hi Stephen,
WELL SAID!! Part of progress is learning, the other is changing
deeply ingrained habits and values.
I was surprised to read the recent post which equated wanting to be
healthy with selfishness. Most of the health problems in our country now
are directly attributed to our poor living habits/addictions--Eating too
much meat, sugar, chemically-laden food-- alcohol-- smoking--lack of activity.
Self-love and self-care are not the same as being selfish. They are
necessary to becoming whole, creative, visionary people who can reach out to
others in a positive way.
As you put it, maybe we will finally succeed in killing ourselves
off. I think that rather than pass moral judgement on ourselves & others
for past mistakes & differing interpretations of "right" we need to connect
to the earth, let it heal us, & learn to love ourselves & others. Even
those who disagree with us.
