Nobody on this list has made that argument, and what is important is
that being vegetarian is a dietary choice, and in my opinion a moral
choice. Not meaning that it is THE moral choice to make, but only that
it is a choice based on morals or values. My primary objection,
therefore, was the idea that vegetarianism represents THE moral choice,
PERIOD. Vegetarianism was the right moral choice for me personally, and
I would be pleased if more people felt that way however, I do not feel
omniscient enough to tell them that is how they should feel and I do not
feel an intrinsic lack of respect for those who do feel differently.

I agree with you, Libby. (See Libby's post of 9/14.) That's
precisely the way I feel. I think a diet - of a WIDE variety of
foods (including meat/fish protein) - in moderation - is what all
(most?) humans need. Some individuals may need a certain
prescribed diet for health reasons.
To "boycott" the meat industry because of their unfair or inhumane
practices will not "cut it," IMHO. We need to attack these
practices HEAD ON. Too many others will keep them in business for
this to have an effect. Look at the tobacco industry. Look how
many (of course, not enough!) have quit smoking - yet they are still
"alive and well" and that's with a double-WARNING on their packages
and horror stories by the medical experts everywhere as to the ill
effects!
This is all I have to say on this. Everyone is in charge of their
own health (and diet)!

damn hungry) is probably close to (or more than) 90% of the world's
population.
