Sociobiology, Sex and Male Violence
For the record, you can see a very convincing pair of graphs in:
http://matu1.math.auckland.ac.nz/~king/Preprints/book/consum/consum.htm
which illustrate that 30 times as many males as females commit non-relative
homicides (second illustration from top of chapter).
Of course the number of non-homicidal males is almost the same as the
number of non-homicidal females, so one cannot conclude that men are
homicidal maniacs, as many 'androgenic' lines of thinking tend to do.
In fact what is very surprising is how low the levels of violence are in
both sexes. This can have come about only through a capacity on the part
of females to choose genetic partners who were resourceful and constructive
in their engagement. The presence of the concealed estrus implies that
female-choice reproductive selection has occurred over evolutionary times
scales in humans and is a putative driving factor in the development of the
human brain.
One notes however that the onset of urban patriarchal society changes the
reproductive pattern so that male reproductive choice and male conflicts of
interest become the evolutionary drivers. Male dominance becomes
selective.
Solution: Abrogate measures against female reproductive choice.
