well yeah! the idea that god the divine is separate from nature & women are
fallen from equality with men. look i don't want to rewrite the whole damn
book if you want to know more go get a copy of Dreaming the Dark by Starhawk
& read it. During the inquisition or Burning Times there was alot of the
peasant class be separated from their connection with the earth. This god is
in some heaven on high & is relatively unreacheable by normal everyday human
interactions. even if you pray, & back when i was raised catholic i did, you
don't get a direct answer back. you don't even get a mysterious riddle type
answer back. yes stuff in your life may happen with some connection to your
praying. women are & have been in ancient times connected to the earth to the
power that is nature & part of the witch hunts were the tool used to separate
the people from this power. as well as to let the new educated male
physicians to get there monopoly over health care by virtually eradicating all
the female midwives & healers. By forcing this new religion down everyone's
throats the way they did; become christian or we'll burn you as heretics &
witches, they effectively separated most of the western people from the old
relgions that had connections with the earth as a divine creature. So since
nature was no longer sacred but instead profane as those who claimed
allegiance to such nature religions were consorting with the devil, pollution
of it & ignoring the natural flows of nature was a predictable transition.
now that we have finally realized that such practices may end us up with an
uninhabitable planet & we haven't got anywhere else to go we are starting to
clean up the mess we've made of it all, but it may be too little too late.
When we had gods that had a connection to the earth of some kind & it's people
rather than just some & others are less than the rest & aren't deserving of
the "covenant" for some reason usually something they have no control over
like race or sex; we treated the earth as a part of the whole framwork of
things as just a sacred as everything else & we didn't knowingly abuse it as
we have in the more recent past. in most cases we also didn't overuse it
either. that is we discouraged over population of all the beasts including
us & moved on in some cases when areas became on the verge of overuse. I'm
rambling here but go find the book, Starhawk is a much better writer than i
am. She's a professor at Holy Names Seminary in Half Moon Bay CA, at least
last time i checked she was still there but she also works with the Reclaiming
Collective on the western coast as well.
