Hi,
It is heart warming to see the support that males give each other when
warranted. I would like to see more encouragement and support between females
to help those caught up in domestic violence escape (perhaps more bonding
and "mateship" amongst females and more openess and less denial about male
abuse).
Perhaps battered males should have their own list to be supportive of
each other (no offence meant but every time people here try to raise the
issue of battered women and children and the high death rates of the two
from DV,
we always have the fringe male groups appear and cry DV themselves when that
is not the issue being addressed - usually in newspapers etc).
In Australia, millions of dollars have been put aside for a study into
violence amongst men. It makes me so sick in the stomach that this is aother
allocation
of funding from a male dominated government to find out why men are being
violent (there is already so much known about this as to make this amount of
money unacceptably high when abused women are lacking essential services and
basic support!!!! and meanwhile women and children are dying from DV.).

Jacob...welcome. It is good to hear from you. But please don't think of
'feminist essentialism' being separatist or male hating. After all, if
someone wanted to go off and study the life and thought of Abraham Lincoln
with other students of Lincoln, no one would think them separatist...they
would, I think, be seen as scholars and philosophers trying to understand the
world around them. Or if they wanted to go off and study Spanish with others
who were learning it, or speaking it, I really don't think they would be
considered haters of non-Spanish speaking peoples. Again, they would be seen
as dedicated students of the art.
The world of women's thought, language, history, philosophy and culture is one
that, really, is only beginning to be explored. It is terribly difficult to
be endlessly baited as exclusionary when one is really only attempting to
understand, focus, heal, and harvest from a world that has been silenced for
so long. One of the most hurtful ways of closing off scholarship and
philosophical adventures in that world is to claim that, by so doing, we are
in some way evincing a pathological dislike or separatist stance from men (not
that separatism is necessarily pathological).
The ultimate idea is, I think, as Carlos suggested...inclusion. But before
you can include someone in the results of your adventures, you have to take
the adventure journey. And sometimes, that is best done alone.
