I am in the process of trying to let the feminist/activist/social justice
community know about a valuable educational resource.
FURY FOR THE SOUND: The Women at Clayoquot is an award winning documentary
that is a dramatic plea for increased citizen participation in environmental
issues. As it began with my own arrest for civil disobedience on the logging
roads of Clayoquot Sound, BC, it has from its inception been designed to
encourage social/environmental reform.
The film has been travelling around the world, and from the nature of the
audience response, it is having its intended impact on people. Individuals
not previously initiated into environmental activism, or acitivism in
general, leave the theatre asking themselves what they can do!
I am writing to share this resource, and to encourage you to spread the word
to others.
My goals are:
GOAL #1: to distribute this documentary to interested individuals as far and
wide as possible who would like to access a private copy of this tape to show.
GOAL #2: The larger goal is to connect with individuals and groups who would
like to organize a public showing of the film in their city or town. From
these showing, audience members would be invited and guided to form
environmental alliances to work on environmental issues with local existent
groups.
I am encouraging anyone who is interested in organizing a fundraiser, or
giving helpful hints in that regard to contact me. I already have interested
funders, what I need is a network of hosting organizations!
Thank you for any help that you can offer this project. Please contact me
and pass the word around.
Best regards,
Shelley Wine

DO YOU CARE ABOUT WHAT'S HAPPENING TO THE EARTH?
ARE YOU INTERESTED IN POLITICAL DOCUMENTARY?
WHY WOULD A T O M E G O Y A N SAY:
"I am so pleased to be writing these words in support of a truly amazing
documentary FURY FOR THE SOUND: The Women at Clayoquot. Manifold images
of police hauling steadfast protesters away form a medley not easily
forgotten. It is the rare viewer who would not be transformed by this
story's urgency and passion, and the tremendous spirit and intelligence
of the women portrayed. With an insider's perspective, the director Shelley
Wine has still managed to maintain sufficient distance from the documented
events to both educate and entertain us: I applaud her accomplishment!"

A feature length documentary about women, nature and political action.
Did you know that in Canada in 1993 hundreds of men, women and children from
around the world were arrested and jailed for months in defense of public
land? Scores of elderly women, men and children, aged 8 to 82, were
arrested, and the adults tried, and jailed, for using civil disobedience to
try and save the temperate old growth rainforests. What's more, this was the
largest civil disobedience action in Canadian history, and women were at the
forefront.
>>WARNING: This dramatic film will shock, move, motivate and inspire you to
action...Be prepared to re-evaluate your life!

"I cannot think of more critical issues than those raised and
documented in FURY FOR THE SOUND. Coupling environmental
concerns and struggles to women's empowerment and resistance,
this project brings to light the intersection and interaction of the two
most significant movements of our time."
FRIEDA FORMAN, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education
It was with sadness and with hope too that I previewed FURY FOR THE SOUND.
Shelley Wine and the brave women and children at Clayoquot prove how
inspirational political activism can be. May the destruction of these
magnificent ancient forests end.
EDWARD ASNER, Actor/Activist
The neutralizing effect of broadcast gatekeepers insulates us from calls
to action in the media. FURY FOR THE SOUND breaks that mold. It is one
of those rare documentaries that takes you with passion and logic into
another mindset from which there is no escape. One woman, being hauled
away by emotionally vacant police, implores viewers to leave their
"comfort zones" and join her defense of our precious natural heritage.
We ignore her invitation at our own peril.
