DEPARTMENT OF PHILOSOPHY
The Department of Philosophy at California State University Fullerton
invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor to
begin Fall semester, 1999.
The Position: The department is seeking applicants with a strong
philosophical background and demonstrated philosophical interests in both:
(1) core areas of philosophy (e.g., epistemology,
philosophy of mind, Greek, modern or contemporary philosophy),
and
(2) applied philosophy (e.g., applied ethics, philosophy of
law and pre-law preparation, philosophical investigations in culture,
ethnicity and gender).
Expected activities include teaching, increasing student learning outcomes
through technological innovations in philosophy, research and scholarly
activity, student advisement and participation in departmental and
University service.
Qualifications: The successful candidate must show evidence of excellent
teaching ability and a willingness to teach a wide range of undergraduate
philosophy courses and must also demonstrate relevant competency and
willingness to promote innovations within the university's general education
program. Skills in collaboration, mentoring, and student-centered learning
are an asset. A Ph.D. in philosophy is required.
Rank and Salary: The position will be at Assistant Professor with salary
range from $37,956 to $44,628, contingent on experience and educational
preparation and is subject to any CSU system faculty contract salary
increases.
