-Rachel is a weekly newsletter put out by Peter Montague re:
various environmental issues. It is quite good. He has done many issues
on the concern about hormone mimicks and among many problems, lowered
sperm count in males. I don't really understand Carol's comments above
but I found them to be at best a bad joke and really inappropriate. These
Rachel newsletters (name after Rachel Carson I would imagine) are
excellent and I hazard to say, antiestablishement and gender neutral. You
can check them out by subscribing to the list (I'm sorry I don't have the
address at my fingertips but you can e mail me directly or on the ecofem
list and I'll be happy to look it up and post it), or you can ftp them at
your unix promp: ftp ftp.std.com
then change directory to: periodicals/rachel
-- BTW, I use this list for a class I teach...it often has EXCELLENT
exchanges of ideas. I am (and my students) are certainly learning a lot.
I don't always agree with everything, but then, who does? The recent
posting of Dr. Shiv'as critique of the Cairo conference was very
powerful. We used it for discussions in my classes and it really
generated good exchanges, if a little heated at times(which I think is
healthy...I think americans are too sensitive at the expense of not
exchanging ideas).
Finally, as a teaher in the sciences and as a former student, I don't
think there is any doubt about men trying to keep women down
prfessionally...I've seen it too often for it to be a coincidence. It has
to be fought by both genders, and yes, men need to be educated.
