The Department of Forest Ecology and Management,
Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences
gives the PhD field course during the end of November 2007:

Ecology and Management of the Ethiopian Highlands,
5 credits (7.5 ECTS credits)

Dr. Anders Malmer, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences
 
Course Objectives: 
The course will provide an understanding of the physical and biotic 
fundamentals for livelihoods and land management in the highlands of 
Ethiopia. Particular emphasis is put on soils, fire management and 
grazing. 
 
This course started with a series of lectures by Professor Masresha Fetene 
in Umeå in June 2006. The lectures are available on CD.
 
The second part of the course will include a 10 days' field excursion 
during the end of of November 2007, through the southern highlands of 
Ethiopia, with participation of researchers and PhD students from Addis 
Ababa University.
 
Students are expected to apply for travel grants individually. Course
