The red lights for seeing the keyboard in the dark ROCK and the overall sturdy feel. Having a smart card reader rocks. Cons It looked like it came with a fingerprint reader but no such luck, nor did I see any way to add it when ordered. Go figure - make sure you ask questions when you expect something. The left side ports could use a cover similar to the back and right side. Dusty environments will rock the smart card and PCMCIA slots as well as the headphone and mike spots. Additional Thoughts I love it but wish I had waited for the more rugged options (couldn't due to 60 day shipping times for that option). If you are looking for rugged that you will take to Afghanistan or Iraq get the fully rugged because of the dust. For US semi rugged this should work well. I LOVE the read lights for working on the system at night. 9 of 11 people found this review helpful. Was this review helpful to you? You'll get more options and features in a lighter model. Plus I love the monitor lights. It is a bit heavy but nothing compared to the brickboxes. More proc power and expansion. Cons Rubber port covers should be attached. Additional Thoughts Good design and overall laptop. 68 of 87 people found this review helpful. Was this review helpful to you? I; Operational up to 10k feet). For dust, the ATG met MIL-STD 810F standards (Method 510.4, Proc. I) for all D-module options (2nd HDD, 2nd battery, Air Bay) except optical drives. 2 GB means 1 billion bytes and TB equals 1 trillion bytes; actual capacity varies with preloaded material and operating environment and will be less. 3 Between 128MB and 256MB may be allocated to support system graphics, depending on system memory size and other factors. 4 Up to 256 MB of system memory may be allocated to support graphics, depending on memory size and other factors. 5 This term does not connote an actual operating speed of 1 Gb/sec. For high speed transmission, connection to a Gigabit Ethernet server and network infrastructure is required. 6 Starting weight of 6.34 lbs for the ATG D630 is with a 14.1"WXGA display, Genuine Windows(r) XP Professional, CD-ROM and a 6-cell battery. Weights vary depending on configurations and manufacturing variability. 7 Discs burned with this drive may not be compatible with some existing drives and players; using DVD+R media provides maximum compatibility (c) 2008 Dell For customers of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia only. I am confused by the adverts of "rugged", "semi-rugged", etc. My needs are fairly simple - a laptop I can use in the rain (it doesn't have to be tough enough to be dropped from a building!) - lightweight for carrying out to the field and rainproof. I would appreciate any informaiton anyone could provide - thanks in advance.
