ecologists are expected to be observant and inferential, but spiritual?
religion and spirituality are typically "off-limit" topics amongst
scientific colleagues due to the recent evolution-religion hyperpolarization
and, well, belief systems should be a personal choice, either you believe or
you don't.  research ecologists are reluctant to accept that there is
freedom in making a commitment to belief systems.  also fundamental
religious folk are reluctant to accept the world as anything but painted by
the hand of a god.  this way of polarizing thought (evolution vs. religion)
is a classic case of a category error.
