Program Development Intern- Nevada Clean Energy Corps

Description:
The U.S., with less than 5 percent of the world’s population, contributes a
disproportionate amount of carbon emissions to the earth’s atmosphere. As it
concerns for long term environmental sustainability continue to grow, so do
the initiatives to reduce climate change inducing green house gases. As a
result, the development of renewable energy alternatives and the adoption of
green, energy saving practices is of increasing importance to environmental
conservation efforts. 

The Great Basin Institute (GBI) seeks an AmeriCorps Intern to aid in the
programmatic development of the newly launched Nevada Clean Energy Corps
(NCEC). The Intern will help build a sustainable clean energy oriented
program that will facilitate a variety of projects and activities which may
include, but are not limited to, waste to energy research and
implementation, recycling programs and outreach, agricultural green
practices, building efficiency efforts, and ‘green’ public outreach and
education. Responsibilities may include: partnership development;
interpretive/educational talks and presentations; organization and
participation in green community events; research, development, and
promotion of programs for various clean energy initiatives; volunteer
coordination; and grant writing.

Compensation:  
o       Living Stipend: $18,000
o       Education Award: $5,350
o       Health and dental benefits 

Timeline:  
o       February 14, 2011 through February 3, 2012 

Qualifications:
o       Coursework in public health or sustainability (with interest in
clean/renewable energy development) or equivalent experience;
o       Knowledge of clean energy movements and renewable energy development
projects in the western US;
o       Knowledge of waste to energy and/or recycling practices preferred;
o       Knowledge of building efficiency practices preferred;
o       Experience with grant writing strongly preferred;
o       Experience using Microsoft Office software;
o       Experience providing education and outreach to the general public 
preferred;
o       Good communication skills (both verbal and written);
o       Ability to work independently and in a team environment;
o       Motivated, self-starter, detail oriented, and possess good 
organizational
skills;
o       Experience with project development, preferred;
o       Meet AmeriCorps eligibility requirements: (1) U.S. citizenship or legal
resident alien status, (2) eligible to receive an AmeriCorps Education Award
(limit of four in a lifetime or the equivalent of two full-time education
awards), and (3) pass National Sex Offender Public Registry (NSOPR) and
federal criminal background checks.
