The New York Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, in the Department of Natural Resources at Cornell University, is seeking candidates for a postdoctoral position to initiate projects on fish and wildlife management using structured approaches to decision making. Duties include: 1) Build capacity within the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation in structured decision making and adaptive management. Develop training materials, lead short courses, workshops, and/or web-based seminars on structured decision making and adaptive management, 2) Initiate one fish and one wildlife structured decision research project with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. Use decision analysis to incorporate ecological, social, cultural, and economic dimensions into the decision making process. Utilize analytical approaches to aid decision-makers, including methods for model evaluation and uncertainty quantification.
Minimum Requirements: 1. Ph.D. in ecology, fish or wildlife biology, or a related field. 2. Strong analytical skills (especially in modeling, estimation, and optimization). 3. Demonstrated desire and proven ability to publish in peer-reviewed journals. 4. Excellent writing and personal communication skills. 5. Exceptional command of written and spoken English. Recommended qualifications: Competitive candidates will also have one or more of the following qualifications: have a background in structured decision making and/or adaptive management, previous experience leading a collaborative research project, and teaching experience.
