This PDRA position funded by a consortium grant from the EPSRC is available 1st September 2011. The SECURE project addresses the grand challenge of integrating greater resource conservation and more efficient resource utilisation across scales to meet future urban demands, using NE England as a case study. The successful applicant will develop methods to quantify and map urban ecosystem service provision from city-to-regional scales, and investigate the potential to increase the future contributions of these services to sustainability. Applicants will possess a PhD in Ecology, Environmental Science or a closely related discipline, and should have advanced skills in GIS/data handling, spatial analysis, and/or mathematical modelling. They should be confident, independent scientists with knowledge of the discipline and contemporary research methods in environmental science. Applicants must be able to design and perform analyses, prepare results for publication and assist in training of graduate students, and be prepared to travel and spend short periods with consortium partners in England.
