Have to agree with any of these posts as to what the word "Volunteer" really means. I know of one very popular non-profit org here in the U.S. They call all of their participants "Volunteers" and what is even more ridiculous, they call the price tag they put on their programs...."Contributions". Their programs are a bit different than our Field Courses, "volunteers" are asked to stay in one location and collect data for what seem to be real Researchers/U. level Professors. There prices (contributions....we don't use this word) for the same length of time at sites that we send people (volunteers....we don't use this word) are 3-4 times more than we charge. And it is true, 99% of what anyone pays for one of our Field Courses does stay with the host country and most are NGO's doing some excellent Conservation and Education work.
So, at times it comes down to semantics on this topic. Thank you. No more comments from here on this topic.
