> The Great Basin Institute is recruiting an Assessment, Inventory and
> Monitoring (AIM) Program Coordinator for projects located in designated
> western states, currently including CA, ID, UT, WA, OR, and WY. The overall
> objective of GBI’s AIM program is to capture consistent, landscape-scale
> monitoring data in support of the BLM’s national strategy for standardized
> resource monitoring, predominantly in sage grouse habitat, on public
> rangelands and riparian systems within designated priority areas. Field
> crews collect biotic, hydrologic, and soil qualitative indicators in
> conjunction with quantitative data to inform conservation planning and
> adaptive management decisions.

> The AIM Program Coordinator will work closely with other Program
> Coordinators, Data Specialists and GBI staff to accomplish this work.
> Specific duties include:
>
> • Recruitment, supervision, management, training, and coordination of
> field crews working on monitoring projects in designated western states;
> • Acting as liaison to Bureau of Land Management (BLM) staff and other
> project affiliates to plan and coordinate current and future projects;
> • Project planning, equipment organization and maintenance, vehicle
> coordination, and team deployment;
> • Data management, utilize GIS to develop sample design, perform QA/QC
> checks, provide spatial analysis for reports and other mapping products;
> • Travel, camping, and site visits to BLM districts/offices;
> • Collaborate with other GBI staff to ensure compliance with grant and
> agreement terms and conditions, including: compliance with AmeriCorps rules
> and regulations, budget management, tracking and financial reporting;
> payroll and invoice review and processing;
> • Project reporting in accordance with programmatic and agency
> requirements;
> • Participate in GBI or partner-sponsored training opportunities, and/or
> facilitate GBI workshops for Research Associates;
> • Complete AIM program administrative support tasks including ensuring
> GBI and BLM policy compliance, maintaining personnel files, reviewing
> safety reports, and completing payroll bi-weekly; and
> • This is predominantly an office-based position in which extended
> periods of time using a computer, talking on the phone, and attending
> meetings are required; and
> • Complete other duties as assigned by GBI staff.

> Contract length: Renewable annually depending on funding and performance
> evaluation
> Expected start date: mid-December 2015 to January 2016
> Rate of Pay:  $1,440 bi-weekly salary

> Qualifications:
> • Degree and equivalent experience in the natural sciences – applicants
> with advanced degrees strongly encouraged to apply;
> • 2 years minimum in a supervisory position;
> • Experience working with federal land management agencies, members of
> the public, and/or non-profit organizations;
> • Understanding of principles related to the fields of botany, soil
> science, wildlife biology, geology, hydrology, and/or spatial analysis;
> • Relevant or related field experience – knowledge of and/or experience
> in high desert and Great Basin ecology preferred;
> • Strong background in plant community ecology and plant identification;
> those with additional soil identification experience will be given
> preference;
> • Ability to lead and manage the collection of field data according to
> protocol guidelines and a detailed QA/QC process;
> • Experience analyzing geospatial data and creating map products with GIS;
> • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and orally, with a
> diverse audience including members of the public, agency resource staff and
> management, and GBI program and administrative staff;
> • Experience writing technical reports;
> • Possess a clean, valid, state-issued driver’s license and the ability
> to operate a 4WD vehicle on and off paved roads; and
> • Meet requirements of federal agency security background checks (e.g.:
> FBI criminal and National Sex Offender Public Website, Department of
> Interior Security Screening).
