I'm in the coastal range of northern, central California, 50 miles north of
San Francisco. I heard that in Oregon (and farther north?) they call it
"madrona", which I found interesting because our area is full of left over
Spanish influenced names, unlike the pacific northwest, and yet they use
the spanish name not us.
They are a pretty tree, aren't they? They say the berries are edible (but
bitter?), and the bark can be used to make a mild flavored tea (not bad).
