Unfortunately, Eric, I suspect most people either don't think at all or 
else they really do think humans are that smart.  I was in the former 
category until a church sermon about where our garbage goes sent me into 
spiritual crisis and led me to try to learn to live sustainably.  Still 
don't have sustainable living figured out, but I'm hoping you folks will 
help me learn.

Scary, isn't it.  Do people really think humans are so smart and
all-knowing so as to believe that we can understand and manipulate the
world so easily?  It seems arrogant and foolish to me. <snip>
