Well, no. Ontario is not particularly any more difficult to build a safe
house in than anywhere else. However, beside a lake in what sounds like a
swamp in Northern Ontario, and with the house only to be lived in for part
of the year, my seriously uneducated opinion is that there's little hope
of pulling it off in either an environmentally friendly or unfriendly way.
I'd love to hear differently, and to know it could be done, preferably in
the most environmentally benign way possible, but it is a really, really
challenging environment to build the desired cabin in. I would opt to tent
on higher, dryer ground and hope that the forest molds don't bother me too
much once away from all the usual contaminants and molds in houses. And
yes, I have mold allergies, and there are buildings that I can not breath
in because of molds.
