Kevin wrote and said i should have talked more about the
role of mulch on strawberries. His information says the
strawberry grows up a small amount each year assuming it
needs to get above forest litter. If we don't mulch the
berry it causes problems. This fits with your idea that
the mulch serves many purposes.
We are in the middle of strawberry season here and i'm eating
a couple of bowls each day. Fortunately, the season only
lasts a few weeks followed by a few more weeks of limited
production. Then we can get back to fantasizing about next
years strawberry crop. I like the fantasizing more than
eating.
