Hi Gene, yes i like that quote also. It seems accurate. In
the past i've stepped off the economic treadmill a few times
and felt a rush of freedom. It gives one the sense of life
being on an adventure and at the same time feels like
stepping into the unknown. I think culture provides a
roadmap for acceptable goals and activities and this isn't
obvious till we try to step away it.
David Edwards is a young writer who dropped out of a
marketing career and now writes about ecology. He still sees
the contrast between corporate/economic thinking and
ecological thinking very clearly and this fuels much of his
writing.
