This reminds me of another quote:

  It was the best of times.  It was the worst of times.
    -- Charles Dickens

I believe Dickens was referring to the French revolution where reforms
were being introduced and a lot of people were dying.  It isn't a process
one would want happening in their back yard.  Mao and his youth
groups seemed to have a similar idea.  That is another painful event.
Even the reforms in South Africa had a period of unrest preceding.
It does appear that change has been painful.

When i become world ruler i'm going to invent a process oriented society
that can change with minimal pain.  It will also have new checks and
balances to keep any segment from becoming too powerful.  Sure..

jeff (planted scalions in the rain today.. part of the "first do no harm"
