I posted a note here titled "Want to help a weird guy build a weird house?"
a while ago. I have to confess I did a poor job of keeping track of who
replied on what list/forum I posted to. Anyhow, that post was about a
house raising I was planning for a modern version of an Indian earthlodge.

I've been putting this off as long as I could, hoping I'd figure out some
way of making it work, but I'm going to have to cancel the house raising.
We had nearly two weeks of temps as high as 113F where I nearly melted
sitting still. I finally got back to cutting trees last week, but then
the chain started rolling off the bar of the chainsaw. I now have two
chains that I can't get back on the bar until I straighten some of the
runners that keep the chain on the bar.

It still might be possible for me to get the trees cut and the holes dug
and the other things that need done before any raising would be done in the
next 10 days, but that would mean taking a big risk that people would
either travel here needlessly, or would have to change their plans at the
last minute. Rather than messing up everybody else's schedule, I'd rather
just cancel it cleanly before anybody's plans are set.

I'm still going to build the house, and will have it done before winter.
If there is anybody that lives close enough to come lend a hand on short
notice, I would be very glad to have that hand later, but I cannot commit
to when.

I thank the people who were kind enough to send their best wishes' and
will still accept them. ;-)

I really want to thank those people who planned on coming to help,
especially those that were coming from far away. I'm sorry I couldn't do a
better job of holding up my part and would have liked to have met you all.
