Francis, There's also the EDIFACT DIRDEF (Directory Definition message) and IMPDEF (EDI implementation guide definition message). The specification for these messages is free from the EDIFACT web site (this statement is not meant to be a jibe at X12 or DISA in any way...the UN and DISA are very different organizations and operate in very different ways). Of course there may be subtle variations since both have been included as part of a number of EDIFACT directories (DIRDEF since D.95B, IMPDEF since D.98B). In this case, standard definitions and implementations are transmitted separately. Having not made an indepth study of the 868, I'm assuming it does both (the transaction set description suggests as much). I made a quick review of the segments, but didn't see where the implementation details went.
Best regards, Bill Chessman Inovis(tm) -----Original Message----- From: Francis Upton [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, October 22, 2004 10:37 AM To: EDI-L Mailing List Subject: [EDI-L] DISA and X12 standards formats Hello, I'm developing a mapping tool that works with EDI specifications (and XML, CSV, ADF, etc), and about a year ago I called DISA to find out if I could license their electronic specifications for resale. They informed me that (at that time) they never did that. I was curious about this since I know that at least Edifecs (and presumably many other companies) provide complete version of the X12 specifications to their customers (presumably as part of their product offering); this seemed to contradict the license terms on which DISA offers the specifications. The DISA guy I talked to seemed surprised by this. Any comments on this? Also, I'm interested in being able to import EDI specifications into my tool. It seems that I must support at least gXML 1.0 and SEF, but I would like to support the DISA/X12 formats directly so that you can import an entire version from their specifications. Would anyone want this sort of thing? Are there any other specification formats for EDI that I'm missing? Thanks, Francis .
