I understand completely. As a consultant, we find ourselves commonly in the position
of managing consultants or FTEs that fit your description.

Create a form or list of questions for them to fill out. Normally for the kinds of
issues that you are describing below, it is normally just 3 to 5 items that you need.
Reject any requests that are incomplete.

Then create a testing process to be followed. Alway find a way to include the
non-consultant sponsor (normally their manager) in the process (normally by email).
When the consultant understands that thier manager will have visibility, more thought
goes into the process. On 'test results' create a grid for the result. Always
include a place to include a color. In Excel, this would be a column that contains
only Green, Yellow, or Red. This allows their manager to briefly glance at the test
results to see the damage without having to absorb and understand all of the issues.

Best of luck,
Pete

Subject: [EDI-L] Dealing with less skilled EDI folks

Hi Group,

I wanted to get a quick response about how best to deal with contracted EDI folks who
obviously either have not done much EDI or are not skilled at it but try to bluff
their way through & send many tests through that are not even attempting to be close
to the spec's or even pass X12 validation.

I have asked several times to not have the person send me bad data, but to ask
questions. When the questions come they are not specific like in what Segment.

Any ideas to make this less painful for me?

Thank You
