The software for EDIINT does not have to be expensive. We use Softshare ECS which includes AS2, AS1 and AS3 for a price that is extremely reasonable.
I remember the first pocket calculator I bought cost $249. It added, subtracted, multiplied and divided. Then somebody came out with one for $175. Later, one for $95. Then a new brand called Casio came along and for $24.95 theirs did everything. Yesterday a supplier sent me one with their name one it, for free. Don't buy more than you need, and don't discount the possibility of using a brand that is not a household name. Yet. I don't think the "connecting directly to multiple AS2 servers" is a big deal, but the expense of the software is tragic. Perhaps no so much a step back as a step forward into a pile of dog doo. There are a few open source AS2 projects in the works out there, and when some of them are completed, I think AS1,2,3... will be much stronger. The middle-men are eating all the benefits. TTx- .
