The trail got to a silly stage and it isn't going away so;

- The original thread was around standards, use there of, standards bodies,
distribution and copyright issues. I posted the info I found to try to help
the person track down where to go to get distribution rights. Bottom line
was that if DISA is a black hole, he can go to ANSI and they should be able
to guide him to the right parties to legally publish or distribute X12
information.

There wasn't a shred of "technology" in the discussion. Standards attempt
to provide guidelines on how to use various forms of technology. They are
not technology of themselves.

- X12 vs X.12 my apologies for the typo. It is mis-stated as X.12 many
times and places, I should know better, it is a common error. Thank you for
the correction Mike.

  - I corrected myself in stating ANSI accredits standards committees.
Thanks for confirming it. Mike you said DISA does not have a formal
relationship with ANSI. Unless the info online is incorrect or outdated,
DISA DOES have a formal relationship with ANSI. As I quoted from their web
site:

"Data Interchange Standards Association. The secretariat of the ANSI ASC X12
committee, which administers the ANSI X12 standards."

How can they be the secretariat of the ANSI ASC X12 committee and not have
a formal relationship? Is this committee disbanded? Even then, DISA & ANSI
would have some form of relationship.

- "Pan American EDIFACT board no longer exists" - Guess the website needs a
refresh. Just proves you can't trust info you find on the web. :-) Thanks
for the update.

I went and did the research as the original post piqued my interest. No one
had clearly explained the situation so I posted what I found. It was all
cut and paste so I apologize if the information is out of date. Mike, if
you have a current online resource we could reference with definitive
information I would appreciate a link.

Apologies to all for adding any new fuel to the spam fire on a thread that
should have died awhile ago.

Regards,

James Hatcher
