Steve,

The general rule of thumb is, retain electronic documents just as you would
the corresponding paper documents. We have decided to keep (1) the source
document, (2) the object document and (3) the software and maps of each
translation. I have made duplicate backups of each document I have removed
from the server, one as a working copy stored locally, and one stored
offsite with our other electronic and paper backups.

If you have questions about the retention requirements, start with your
firm's finance group. They should know the law that applies to you.

Good luck,

Subject: [EDI-L] <MISC> Archiving Strategies

I'm curious as to how long other companies retain their historical EDI
documents. Our's are archived on a daily basis, but I'm wondering how
long the tapes/CD's need to be kept. We primarily deal in service
orders (either ANSI 142 documents or proprietary flat-files) with some
856's, 810's and 850's. Are there legal requirements involved?

Thanks,
