Maddy,

I can give you our experience with migrating from Gentran 4.2.02 to GIS
3.1. We are now on 4.1 and the maps are still working. So, I'm betting
the process is very similar.

In order to check your maps into GIS they have to be changed to
"Sterling Integrator" maps. (Compiled map extensions must be .txo
(standard) or .ltx (XML).) This breaks all Update or Select Standard
Rules that reference Gentran data. It also breaks any Extended Rules
that reference the database. You will have to rebuild your Standard
Rules and rewrite your Extended Rules so they reference the GIS database
instead. This of course requires recompiles of every map you have to
migrate!

GIS uses "Correlation Data" points to keep track of reference data like
PO number or PO date. These replace the Updates to Document Records.

If you are using ODBC maps then there's a whole new can of worms to play
with. The details regarding these maps are too painful to explain here.
Let me know if you need the gory details off-line.

Other than that, the map migration is not too bad. We had to recompile
150+ maps and it took us a few months to complete properly. Of course
we had to compensate for the ODBC issues too.

Let me know if this helps or if you need more information on ODBC maps.
And of course, a bit of study (days on end) of the GIS documentation
always helps too.

Good Luck!
